Introduction by the Executive Director
As the Executive Director of VOASA, it is my sincere pleasure to welcome you all to our first quarterly issue of VOASA E-News.
What better time to look ahead than right now, at the beginning of a new year, when we are full of energy and armed with ideas and plans for the future. 2008 saw our industry evolve and the new year has been greeted with the launch of the new VOASA name
and logo.
We have emerged from this process of re-branding more streamlined and efficient, and fiercely dedicated to making the association even better than before.
In this issue we highlight the new Western Cape Liquor Act. We welcome a new industry player as Interval international partners with Southern Sun Lifestyle Resorts. We congratulate the winners of the RCI Oscas 2008 and the Holiday Club 2008 Achiever Awards. And we bring you feedback on the DAE Global Conference 2009.
We hope you enjoy this issue.
Warmest Regards
Alex Bosch

Southern Sun Hotel Interests
Southern Sun Lifestyle Resorts to enter into a long-term, exclusive affiliation agreement with Interval International. Southern Sun’s half-dozen existing Lifestyle Resorts, represents one of the biggest vacation ownership programs in Southern Africa.
Along with the affiliation, Southern Sun has chosen Interval to provide a wide array of customized services, including program-design support and back-office points-based reservation services. Interval has long specialized in working with resort developers to create vacation ownership programs, most notably points-based club products.
Interval Leisure Group Chairman and CEO Craig M. Nash states, “The company has been a major player in the region’s vacation ownership industry for many years, and we look forward to working with Southern Sun as they take their already successful business to the next level.
We are also very pleased to offer our members the chance to visit these quality resorts in Southern Africa, a destination that’s known worldwide for its one-of-a-kind vacation experiences set amidst spectacular scenery.”
The Southern Sun Lifestyle Resorts program currently boasts approximately 33,000 members, or more than 8 percent of the country’s existing timeshare owners. According to the Vacation Ownership Association of Southern Africa (VOASA), some 400,000 owners hold weeks or points for shared vacation ownership in the country.
A recent VOASA survey, meanwhile, shows that that almost 66 percent of respondents feel that shared vacation ownership has increased the amount of time they spend on holidays.

Dial An Exchange Global Conference 2009
Dial An Exchange’s South African office was the host of their annual Global Conference held at South Africa’s beautiful Sun City
in February.
Attending the conference were representatives from DAE’s offices in Asia, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the US and South Africa. During the three day conference the company’s key executives reviewed results for 2008 and developed strategies for the challenging year ahead.
|
 |
|
“The coming together of our key people from all over the world, and the dialogue and plans that result are a pivotal part of maintaining our edge in the marketplace. It is amazing what can be learned from the collective input of such a diverse group, who are able to convey the successes and challenges of dealing in their respective markets - and then combine that experience into a solid strategy going forward” said CEO Francis Taylor.
Having shown significant growth in 2008, the group’s expectation for healthy growth in 2009 will be a true challenge in today’s global economy. However, DAE remains positive that by keeping things simple, keeping costs low, and running an efficient operation worldwide they can and will achieve their goal.
In February 2009, Dial An Exchange launched the final stages of a worldwide initiative. Gold Advantage is a premium membership product that offers members an even more aggressive value proposition, and in the US specifically, also includes a set of quality lifestyle benefits that complement the overall vacation
ownership experience.
In the UK and across Asia, DAE has been selling the DAE enhanced membership product for some time, helping DAE understand what properly resonates with the timeshare owner and how to best position the offer worldwide.
Besides new product and other new projects, one of the issues addressed at the conference was the need to give sold-out resorts, Home Ownership Associations and Management Companies a forum of global workshops where pertinent subjects can be discussed and solutions provided. Stay tuned!
“Dial An Exchange has come a long way over the past 12 years and now proudly offers a first-class and truly global service to timeshare owners, resorts, developers, home owners associations, resale companies and fractional vacation ownership entities” said Francis.
